Top Gun Tess or "Tess" is a 15.1 hand Quarter Horse mare. She is 13 years old and I bought her five years ago when I had just started riding. I bought Tess from a western barn in Illinois and she was just supposed to be my first horse to learn to ride on. All she knew was western and had never seen a jump before in her life. After a couple months of riding her, my trainer Lizzy Jahnke said she would teach her how to jump. It was a long process as we were learning together.

I’ve had my horse Beau Tie aka “Beau” for just over four years. When I got him, no one thought a single thing of him. He was a scrawny Thoroughbred that had been sitting in the pasture for months. A year and a half went by and we got nowhere. We had done one show, but Beau was not in competition shape and he wasn’t as healthy as he should be. My trainer at the time told me that he was healthy and just needed muscle. So, we kept going.

It’s a year of many firsts for the United States Eventing Association (USEA) American Eventing Championships (AEC). It is the first time in AEC history that the event will be held at the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, Colorado, the first time for the AEC to host non-championship 'festival classes’ for the Introductory through Preliminary levels, and the first time in history for the AEC entry to be 100 percent electronic. On Labor Day weekend, August 30 - September 2 the AEC will be celebrating its 15th year.
