Founded in 2016, the Sewanee Eventing Team is comprised of nine members and lead by coach Karine Gordy. Located on a 13,000 acre campus, Sewanee's equestrian facility is equipped with outdoor and indoor arenas, a 32-stall school barn and a 16-stall boarder barn with heated wash racks, laundry facilities, and tack rooms, as well as sizable paddocks and extensive trails.

They placed fifth in 2015, 10th in 2016, and now they sit poised to take the win in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Advanced at Red Hills International. Waylon Roberts and Anthony Connolly and L. Skey Levely’s 15-year-old Thoroughbred gelding Kelecyn Cognac (Fusaichi Pegasus x Dreamland) remain at the top the leaderboard following the second day of competition at Red Hills after adding 10.8 cross-country time penalties to their first-place dressage score of 29.8.

Marilyn Little and RF Scandalous (Carry Gold x Richardia) scored an impressive 25.6 yesterday in the dressage phase of the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* at Red Hills International and never looked back. Little and Jacqueline Mars and Phoebe and Michael Manders’ 13-year-old Oldenburg mare put in one of only six double clean show jumping rounds this morning before setting out on cross-country, where they jumped clean and picked up 10.4 time penalties on a day when only one rider in 33 starters made the time.

According to organizer Penny Morse, the inaugural Southeastern Schooling Show Championship at Georgia’s Bouckaert Farm started with a thought that became an idea that grew into an event.“It was one of those fleeting moment ideas, that usually leaves just as fast, and five minutes later you cannot remember what it was you were thinking,” said Morse, Harmony Grove Farm, Villa Rica, Ga. “This time it evolved into the ‘I have a dream’ mode. It just kept nagging at me — The Southeast Schooling Show Championships.”

When Alexa Lapp started working for eventer Jennie Brannigan in 2012, the plan was to help out for a month or two until Brannigan found full-time help. Lapp traveled from her home in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Ocala, Florida in the winter of her Junior year of high school, having finished a substantial amount of school credit in her Freshman and Sophomore years and completing her schooling with a combination of on-campus and online courses. Six years later Lapp is still working for Brannigan and their partnership has opened up opportunities for the 19-year-old Young Rider.

Leslie Law and Kai-Steffen Meier join us this week to share some highlights from their teaching as featured clinicians at the 2018 ICP Symposium at Longwood Farm South in Ocala, Florida, February 19-20, 2018. The two-day symposium was dedicated to the training of young event horses, with the first day focusing on flatwork and the second day focusing on work over fences, both show jumping and cross-country.

The 20th annual Red Hills International Horse Trials will begin with dressage for all levels tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. sharp. Nilson Moreira da Silva and Magnum's Martini (Magnum x Momo’s Girl), his own and L&N Equestrian’s 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding, will start things off in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* and Matt Flynn will be the first to go in the Advanced division at 3:21 p.m. aboard Wizzerd (Wizzerd x Amai), Flynn Sport Horse’s 9-year-old KWPN gelding.

The Red Hills International Horse Trials 20th anniversary event will kick off bright and early tomorrow morning at Elinor Klapp Phipps Park in Tallahassee, Florida. In addition to hosting the first Adequan USEA Gold Cup divisions of the year, Red Hills is also a qualifying event for the FEI World Equestrian Games that will be taking place later this year at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.

Feather Creek Farm in Norman, Oklahoma (Area V) hosts two USEA recognized events in June and September, offering Introductory through Preliminary levels. At their June event they also host divisions for the Future Event Horse and Young Event Horse. Feather Creek Farm offers boarding and training services all year as well as cross-country schooling, combined tests, and unrecognized events.
