Nearly 8,000 spectators arrived at the Event at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell, Montana on Saturday morning to enjoy a day of cross-country action as the upper-level riders galloped around Capt. Mark Phillips’ course. While the eventing fans set up their picnics and lawn chairs on the massive hill overlooking the entire course, the riders were excited to experience an optimal day of eventing with a warm breeze and perfect footing.

In the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* division, Allison Spring leads after dressage with a score of 37.4.

In the Training Three-Day division, Therese Russell and Dante lead after dressage on a score of 28.2. Kathy Cain and Sidecar follow in second place with a 30.7, while Tristen Hooks and Learning To Fly stand in third with a 31.1.

In the Advanced division, Karen O'Connor leads after dressage aboard Veronica with a score of 27.0. Phillip Dutton and Ben follow in second place with a 33.3, while Anna Collier and Udealer stand in third with a 35.0.

Training three-day competitors rose early to take advantage of a mini clinic given by Karen O'Connor and Max Corcoran, dissecting the ins and outs of endurance day in the long-format. Later on, some of the nation's top horses and riders trotted down centerline to perform their dressage tests in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* division. Day 1 Video | Day 3 Video

After a brief bone-chilling downpour early this morning at the Event at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell, Montana, the competition heated up on the first day of competition for the CIC3*, CCI2*, CIC2*, Advanced, Intermediate, a few Preliminary divisions, and the Training Three-Day.The chilly temperatures today made for some fresh horses, many of whom have been training in sweltering temperatures at their homes during the weeks prior to the competition. Many of the horses were a bit exuberant with the unseasonable weather, adding in a few extra flying changes or bucks for good measure.

In its tenth year running, the 2011 Event at Rebecca Farm began in true world-class fashion with the international divisions shining up bright and early for their first horse inspection. Later in the day, competitors took a tour around Captain Mark Phillips' cross-country course. We caught up with international competitor Joe Meyer to tour the CIC3* track.

The 2011 Adequan FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships Presented by Gotham North are just around the corner. From July 27-31 young riders from across the U.S. and Canada will descend upon the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the CH-J* and  CH-Y** competitions.
