Last year David Taylor, of Keymar, Maryland, realized he wanted to be more than just a competitive eventer. He wanted to give back to the sport but at the time he wasn’t sure how. It wasn't until he read an article on the United States Eventing Association (USEA) website about becoming a cross-country course designer that it finally clicked.

While the leaders of the four Professional’s Choice Training divisions went unchanged after tackling Captain Mark Phillips’ cross-country course, there are now four new Preliminary leaders after the completion of the first day of cross-country at the 2017 USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Land Rover and Nutrena. As they say, it’s not over until it’s over, and these riders will show jump over Chris Barnard’s course tomorrow before we crown the winners of these divisions.Professional’s Choice Junior Training

The USEA Cross-Country Design and Fence Construction Safety Task Force is a dedicated group consisting of officials, course designers, engineers, organizers and competitors. The goal of the group is to constantly evaluate all safety aspects of the cross-country phase of competition including, but not limited to, design and construction of the fences and courses. Overall, the main focus of the task force is to reduce the risk of both rider and horse injuries and fatalities while in competition.

Not only is this the first year of the Fork Horse Trials at the Tryon International Equestrian Center, but it is also the first event to use the new cross-country course on the White Oak property adjacent to the horse park. Both the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* and Advanced divisions will be leaving the first hoof prints on the future 2018 World Equestrian Games (WEG) gallop paths.

Dear Eventing Enthusiasts,We are looking forward to hosting the Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Land Rover (AEC) at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) in four short weeks. It is exciting to know that at this time we now already have over 500 entries for this year’s event. The cross-country course is ready and we are doing the final grooming and preparation for the AEC.

While it may have seemed like déjà vu with Boyd Martin standing on the top of the podium once again at the $75,000 Wellington Eventing Showcase, he thought that the 2016 event was a whole new ballgame.“This year was a much more competitive field,” said Martin. “It was a higher standard, the course was tougher and it was harder to win this year than last year, but saying that I knew that this horse, Blackfoot Mystery, had a good chance.”

This Ride Between the Flags is given by Laine Ashker, who was the 2013 Adequan USEA Gold Cup Champion. She walks us through a Preliminary coffin combination, which was featured at the 2015 Nutrena  USEA American Eventing Championships, presented by VTO Saddlery at the Texas Rose Horse Park.

Competitors took on Captain Mark Phillips' cross-country at the Nutrena American Eventing Championships presented by VTO Saddlery for the final time at the Texas Rose Horse Park with the competitive Novice and Broadstone Beginner Novice divisions. It will be interesting to see how the standings shake out over the last day of competition starting tomorrow!

The upper levels headed out on the cross-country today to tackle Captain Mark Phillips’ course at the Nutrena American Eventing Championships presented by VTO Saddlery, and the standings in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Final have been shaken up a bit from dressage. In the end it all came down to time penalties which determined the overnight standings. Jacob Fletcher added only 4 time penalties to his dressage score to remain in the lead aboard Atlantic Domino, a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse owned by Company Fletcher Farms. “He was good today!
