Leyland jumped a perfect round for Olympian Amy Tryon this afternoon to clinch the win at the Galway Downs CIC3* in Temecula, CA. Tryon, of Duvall, WA and the nine-year-old Thoroughbred gelding (owned by Elisabeth, Mike, and Chris Nicholson) jumped up from yesterday’s second placing to take over the lead from Jolie Sexon and Killian O’Connor. The talented young Leyland, who won last year’s Jersey Fresh CCI3*, will make his four-star debut at the Rolex Kentucky CCI4* this spring. Josh Walker photo.

Kelly Sult and her 17-year-old Thoroughbred gelding Hollywood had a great run at Southern Pines II last weekend, winning one of the three competitive Advanced divisions at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford, North Carolina. Sult, 22, of Erie, Pennsylvania and Hollywood will head to The Fork CIC3* in two weeks for their final outing before competing at the Rolex Kentucky CCI4* at the end of April. Clayton will be making his second visit to Rolex with Ben Along Time, following his win in 2007, and Lucinda brings her Olympic team silver medal partner, Headley Britannia, for their Lexington debut. Marty Whitehouse is one of the great rising stars in our sport, and not just because of her talent in the saddle. This 21-year-old from Nicholasville, Kentucky has an impressive resume with her horses, which includes many wins such as a blue ribbon at the Midsouth CCI* in 2007 and top placings at last year’s Wellpride USEA American Eventing Championships with four different horses. Last year Marty was awarded a USEA bronze medal for her Preliminary wins, and also took home from the USEA Annual Meeting the prestigious Courtney Reeves Trophy, which is awarded to the individual who exemplifies sportsmanship, the spirit of the sport, and who gives back to the sport.
