The three-year-old Oldenburgs dominated the competition, with Royal Tribute taking the win in the Three-Year-Old Colt/Gelding Championships, the Three-Year-Old Overall Championships, and the Overall Grand Championship. The leggy Oldenburg gelding (Royal Prince—Firstar) is owned by Kristen Burgers and scored a commendable 77.35. Though Lauren Seitz’s Oldenburg filly Just About Perfect scored higher in her Three-Year-Old division (taking the win with a 78.65), she had to settle for Reserve Three-Year-Old Overall Champion and Reserve Overall Grand Champion of the show. Endurance day at Waredaca Farm’s SmartPak Equine/USEA Training Three-Day was just about perfect. A group of 37 courageous riders competed in the long format event over the weekend in late October. In the A Division, D.C. McBroom and Twain came out on top with a score of 35.3. Carrie Meehan and Blue Devil won not only the B Division, but also had the lowest scores of all three division by finishing on a 28.4. In the C Division Jamie Doolittle and A Dream Come True took home the blue ribbon with a score of 38.7. Leslie Mintz Photos.

Jennie Brannigan fills us in on the condition of her beloved partner Cooper, who sustained a severe injury during Sunday’s show jumping round at the Dansko Fair Hill CCI3* in Elkton, Maryland.
“I’ve had quite a few myself, but I never imagined it would continue with Cooper,” says Brannigan. “To be quite honest, Cooper got put on a pedestal in my eyes. He wasn’t just a great horse that won some shows. He changed my life. He got me my job at Phillip’s, he got me every sponsor, and he has made some of my dreams come true. Not to be corny, but I know that’s the truth.”

Having never been to the Irish Draught Horse Society of America’s Annual Breed Show and Inspection, I didn’t know what to expect. And since I was so busy the week prior due to Playland Farm hosting another Irish Inspection, I had very little time to dwell on the hugeness of this event. The morning of departure, I simply threw some tack and essentials in the trailer and headed down Route 81. After three-and-a-half hours sardined between semis, we arrived safely in Lexington, Virginia.

“You and Toby should come to Poplar with me” my friend Lynne proposed while we were watch dressage at Feather Creek HT.
My Hubby kindly said he would look after my two other horse plus the rest of our pets, and I was able to get the time off from my job as an architect. So, I was off to Poplar with Lynne, Heather, Joni, two juniors Alexa and Rowdie and their parents.
Boyd Martin and his Australian Thoroughbred hung onto their overnight lead in the Dansko Fair Hill CCI3* in Elkton, Maryland on Sunday afternoon, and were crowned champions after leaving all but one rail neatly in their cups. After having recently switched his citizenship to American, Australian-born Martin celebrated his first CCI3* victory, after having already won a CCI*, CCI**, and a CCI**** in previous years. Olympian Karen O’Connor and Mandiba were in fine form this weekend, dropping only a single rail to finish the event in second place. Young Kelly Sult and her long-time partner Hollywood posted a double-clear round to jump up two positions to take home third. Final results. Emily Daily & Josh Walker photos.
Hannah Sue Burnett and Richard Thompson’s St. Barths (pictured left) kept everyone on the edge of their seats at the Fair Hill International CCI2* after a nail-biting finish on Sunday afternoon. As they ended a picture-perfect round, Burnett and St. Barths nearly crashed through the final fence after misjudging the distance, but thanks to Burnett’s quick wit and the gelding’s athleticism, they stayed on their feet and passed through the finish flags amid a roar of applause from the crowd. Burnett had a single rail in hand to win the class, and Rebecca Howard and Roquefort dropped two places to finish in third, while Doug Payne and Running Order moved up to second after lowering just one rail.
