Gold Cup
Though there were only three competitors in the Advanced division at Twin Rivers last weekend, the competition was fierce! Only a handful of points separated the three competitors after the dressage phase, and in the end it was Tamra Smith and Bubbles at Bricky who took home the blue. Fresh from their CIC2* win at Richland Park a few weeks ago, they started the event in second, then moved up after 9.2 time faults, and though they had a few rails on Sunday, were still far enough ahead to clinch the win. Dressage leaders Jordan Linstedt and Tullibards Hawkwind dropped to second with time faults, and Alexandra Slusher and Last Call rounded out the third place position, also picking up cross-country time faults, but jumping a double-clear show jumping round. At the end of the weekend, it was our very own USEA President Kevin Baumgardner who took home the blue ribbon, after leading from start to finish aboard Jefferson D’Aurois. Kevin and ‘Jeff’ (pictured left) only added 7.6 cross-country time penalties to their dressage score of 28.5, and dropped a single rail on Sunday afternoon. Congratulations, Kevin! Jude’s Law and Beth Temkin (pictured left) continued their overnight lead in the Twin Rivers CIC2*, adding 8.8 time penalties to their dressage score of 46.2. Jennifer Wooten-Dafoe and Nabouco de Lessay jumped from fifth to second after gaining only five time faults, while Kelly Pugh and Copycat Chloe made a huge leap from eleventh to third after posting the only double-clear round in the division. At the end of the day, it was Robyn Fisher and her athletic Holsteiner mare Lady Calido (pictured left, Josh Walker photo) who finished atop the pack, adding only 5.6 time faults to their second-placed dressage score of 42.0. Overnight leader Tiana Coudray and her Irish Sport Horse gelding Ringwood Magister tacked on 15.6 time penalties to drop one place with a 54.4. With their score of 47.6, Fisher and ‘Callie’ will have at least a rail in hand over tomorrow’s show jumping. Photos by Josh Walker & Emily Daily
Tiana Coudray, 21, of Ojai, CA and her eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Ringwood Magister trotted into the lead this afternoon at the Twin Rivers CIC3* in Paso Robles, CA. The exuberant gelding performed a stunning test, earning them a 38.8, nearly four points ahead of the second placed pair, Robyn Fisher and Lady Calido who posted a very commendable 42.0. Rounding out the top three with a 48.8 was Kristi Nunnink aboard her Holsteiner mare R-Star. Due to the extreme heat during the event, the cross-country times were shuffled and the upper-levels will head out on Derek di Grazia’s cross-country course tomorrow morning, instead of the afternoon.
