One of which addressed leg protection and the research done on cross-country boots. On Saturday, December 5, some of the most recognized and celebrated names in eventing took center stage during the 2009 USEA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Annual Meeting and Convention in Reston, Virginia. With 2003 USEA Hall of Fame Inductee, Jim Wofford as the Master of Ceremonies, Denis Glaccum, Kevin Freeman, Eileen Thomas, David O’Connor, and Bruce Davidson where among this year’s honorees, as well as Good Mixture, Irish Cap, and Custom Made. As each inductee became immortalized in the sport’s history, the Gala’s attendees were regaled with powerful, humorous, inspiring, and emotional speeches eloquently delivered by presenters and inductees alike. On Friday, December 4, 2009 USEA Convention attendees packed the conference room at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, Virginia, to listen to the Review of USEA Safety Studies. USEA Hall of Fame Inductee and USEF President David O’Connor delivered a detailed analysis of data collected by tracking trends in accidents on course throughout the year. Dr. Suzanne Smith, PhD, P.E., a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Kentucky, followed to address developments in frangible pins and deformable fence technology. Next up, John Staples provided an in-depth review and history of the GPS Speed Study, while Dr. Catherine Kohn wrapped up by reviewing the Cardiovascular Research, including the recent study conducted at the Plantation Field Horse Trials in September.
