2013 Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships

September 26-29
Texas Rose Horse Park in Tyler, Texas

The 2013 Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships will be unlike any before. Now organized by the USEA the championships will settle into their new home at Texas Rose Horse Park in Tyler, Texas on September 26-29.

With all the changes this year, the championships are guaranteed to have a new look and some exciting new features. The Advanced Championships will become the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Advanced Championships and competitors will have to qualify by completing one of the designated Gold Cup competitions. These combinations will then be eligible for the $40,000 Advanced Championship. The championship is also designated as the USEF National Advanced Horse Trials Championship for the Jack Le Goff Trophy, a truly prestigious award.

Longtime USEA sponsor Merial is returning as the title sponsor of the Intermediate Championships and we are working hard to secure more prize money and more of those lovely prizes that have become a hallmark of the Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships. Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors who make these championships possible for our members.

The Mark Phillips Pony Rider Championships will again be held at the Beginner Novice, Novice and Training levels for riders 16 and under and ponies 14.2 and under. Please remember if you want your placings to count for qualifications for the AEC and for leaderboard points, you must be a USEA member and your horse/pony must be registered. At the Beginner Novice, Novice and Training levels a lifetime “limited status” horse registration of $40 will take care of your horse’s requirements. If you are moving to the preliminary level and above please make sure that your horse is upgraded to “full status” which is an additional $110. If you have purchased a new horse and intend to compete at the preliminary level and above then you will need to purchase a “full status” lifetime horse registration for which the fee is $140.

Work is already underway on the brand new Mark Phillips designed Advanced course at Texas Rose and we will be bringing you photos of the fences as they are completed. As horse and rider combinations qualify we will post their names on the website. For all other championships levels the qualifications will remain as posted on the USEA website.

The USEA would like to thank all of you for being such loyal supporters of our USEA programs. We are looking forward to cheering you and your horses on at the Texas Rose Horse Park at the end of September and invite you all to come join us as we celebrate Eventing in true Texas style.

Now in its tenth year, the popular Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships  offers qualified USEA members of all ages and levels the chance to compete in the only national championships of its kind in the United States. Each September, hundreds of juniors, adult amateurs, and professionals travel from all across the nation to participate in this prestigious competition, vying for the chance to win a piece of the prize money and fabulous prizes and the chance to be named the best in the nation at their respective levels.

Can Anyone Compete?

Sure, as long as you're qualified! Not sure if you're qualified? Be sure to check out the list of Qualified Riders and list of Qualified Horses. Both horse AND rider must be qualified for the AEC in order to compete and  must still be eligible for the level of competition at which  you qualified. Please check Qualification Criteria or call the office at 703-779-0440 at extension 3005 - Sharon Gallagher.

Think you're not qualified? Think again! As a service to our amateur members, the USEA IT department has developed a system to recognize amateurs who should be qualified for the Championships, but did not receive qualifying placements at events. Because many events hold "Open" divisions where the professionals and amateurs are joined together in one division, the amateurs may have a harder time trying to get the first or second placings they'll need to qualify them for the AEC. Sure, we have many outstanding amateurs who are very competitive in the Open divisions, but our hope is that our amateurs will receive an opportunity to qualify for the designated amateur divisions at the AEC, even when only open divisions are offered at qualifying events. Read more about this upgrade of placing/points.

Under USEA Management and at a Fabulous New Venue

After successful tenures in Southern Pines, North Carolina,Wayne, Illinois, and Fairburn, Georgia, the AEC now moves to the Texas Rose Horse Parkin Tyler, Texas, described by Capt. Mark Phillips as home of “some of the best footing anywhere in the world”. Riders and spectators will enjoy high quality permanent stabling and excellent amenities, as well as spectacular viewing areas for almost all of theshow grounds. Texas Rose is a relatively new equestrian facility very conveniently located one mile from Interstate 20 in Tyler and the landowners are making immense efforts to present six championship level courses in a beautiful park like setting. With courses designed by the renowned designer of Britain’s Burghley Horse Trials, Captain Mark Phillips, Kathy Brunsen and her team havebeen working non-stopto prepare the venuesince thesite waschosen by the USEAfor the 2013 AEC.  Sponsors areliningup to showcase their brands through this unique opportunity.

This past weekend, the Texas Rose Horse Park hosted a landmark event for Area V – the debut of the first Advanced horse trials in the Area.  With no other active Advanced course competing in the Midwestern states at this time, Kathy and Kim Brunson, mother and daughter owners of Texas Rose, plan to make this course an opportunity for riders needing to reduce the time and distance required of Midwestern riders who aspire to the highest levels of eventing and to help grow the skill and depth of Area V competitors.
